Hero

" A hero can be anyone. Even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a young boy's shoulders, to let him know the world hadn't ended." ~ Bruce Wayne, Dark Knight Rises

This is my dog Tawney. He is an Australian Shepard-American Eskimo mix. Last summer (As in 2011) I was calling the dogs in and Tawney wouldnt come so after a while I went looking for him. I found him down by the road unresponsive to me trying to get him to get up and come with me. I ran to my house crying. I ended up telling my dad about him and my dad who hates animals went and carried him all the way to the house. That might not seem like much, but we live in the country. It was a long walk.
We took Tawney to the vet and found out that his leg is broken and he needed surgery. We got the surgery plans set up and we were ready to have Tawney back when the vet called and said they couldnt fix his leg.
And that I had two choices.
These choices were complete opposites. One was selfish and the other was careless. Amputate his leg or kill him. How was that fair?
I said to amputate. Tawney is still here today. He lost his left back leg and he is amazing. He swims in the lake and runs and plays with his brother. He even manages to lift his only back leg and pee... Just so you know its really weird to see your dog on its front legs. :)
And now that you know the back story I can tell you about how being a hero ties into this. My dad was a hero for bringing Tawney to the house. And Tawney was once a hero for saving a chicken that got stuck in the lake.
And Batman is right. Any one can be a hero. You never really know how much you can do for someone. Even offering the homeless man a smile can help. Or holding a door for someone. So, go ahead. Be a hero. It doesnt matter if someone remembers you for it because you will know you did something to help someone else in the end.
